Fallout 4

Game Save Location, Screenshot Folder, Fallout4.ini File

With a review score of 9/10 on Gamespot, Fallout 4 has been received extremely well by fans. The game, which was released in November 2015, currently has around 450,000 active users and is being hailed as one of the most played games on Steam.

As the fourth release in the Fallout series, Fallout 4 is a role playing game set in Massachusetts in the era following the Great War. Similar to its predecessors, the game is in open world format with first and third person perspective, where players take the role of the ‘Sole Survivor’ Character to overcome challenges and find their child who has been kidnapped.

Designed by Emil Pagliarulo and developed by Bethesda Game Studios, Fallout 4 is run on Creation Engine and available to play on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Game Saves File Location

Fallout 4 is a single player game (well, without mods), and because of that, your save files are saved on your computer (and not in cloud). This means that you'll need to know where they are if you ever want to back up, transfer, or share your Fallout 4 saves. You can find them in the following folder:

%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

To quickly open this folder:

  1. Open the Run app, you can do this by searching for it in the start menu or hitting WINDOWS + R on your keyboard
  2. Paste the path into the text box (%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4)
  3. Hit OK

Screenshot Folder Location

In Fallout 4, you can take a screenshot by pressing the PRINT SCRN key. After taking these, they will be located in the installation folder for Fallout 4, this is usually one of the following:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

OR

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout 4

If that folder doesn't exist, you probably have moved your Steam library. To out the path of your Fallout 4 installation in this case (which is where your screenshots will be), follow our guide on how to find a Steam game's folder.

If you're taking screenshots with the F12 key, those are Steam screenshots, which are taken via Steam, not natively through Fallout 4. See how to find Steam screenshots to locate these.

Fallout4.ini File Location

The Fallout4.ini file is a file that can be used to change settings relating to your game that aren't available via the UI. It can be found at the following path:

%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4

Paste the above path into the address field at the top of File Explorer to jump to it quickly.

Note that the file might just be called Fallout4, if your Windows settings are set to not show file extensions.
