SOLVED: Witcher 3 Game Save and Mods Folder

Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, combines elements of action and adventure, as the anticipated third edition in the Witcher series. It was first available to play on 19th May 2015, following its predecessor ‘Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’, which was released in 2011. It has proved extremely popular among fans, with over 20 million purchases.

In this RPG, players are given control of a Witcher named ‘Geralt’, who is sent by his father, along with another character ‘Yennefer’, who also played a part in The Witcher 2, to search across the Northern Kingdoms for ‘Ciri’, who Geralt previously trained as a Witcher and who is known as Source with enormous magical powers. Geralt and Yennefer are on a mission to find Ciri before the Wild Hunt get to her and user her for her powers.

The game was developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projek. Run on REDengine 3, users can currently access The Witcher 3 on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.

Witcher 3 Game Save Location

Witcher 3 is an amazing game. After making a lot of progress, it would be terrible to lose all of your save data. For this reason, many players like to make backups of the save files. Players may also wish to access their game saves to transfer them to a new PC or share them with friends. Whatever the reason, the answer is the same; you can find your Witcher 3 game save files at the following path:

%UserProfile%\Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves

To open that path up:

1. Press WINDOWS + R on your keyboard (WINDOWS being the key) to open a Run window
2. Paste %UserProfile%\Documents\The Witcher 3\gamesaves into the text field on the newly opened Run window
3. Click the OK button
4. A File Explorer window should open at the game saves folder!

Witcher 3 Mods Folder

The Witcher 3 mods folder location varies based on which platform you're using to play the game. See help for your platform below.

Steam

If you're playing Witcher 3 on Steam, and haven't changed your Steam library location you can find the mods directory at this path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Witcher 3

IMPORTANT NOTE: You may need to create the mods folder yourself. Unless you, or a 3rd party app, has created it previously, it won't exist.

To open that path, simply open up a File Explorer window (right click your start button and click File Explorer) and paste the path into the address bar. Then proceed into the mods folder.

GOG

There are two common locations for your mods folder in GOG Galaxy editions of Witcher 3:

C:\GOG Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt

OR

C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt
