Valheim is a survival-based sandbox game which is currently being developed by Iron Gate Studio. Although not officially released, the game became available for Early Access players on the 2nd February 2020, and was released solely for Windows and Linux devices.

Within the game, players assume the role of a slain Viking, and through various quests and missions must prove that they are worthy for the halls of Valhalla. With an open-world set out before them, players are free to explore a selection of different biomes, each with unique enemies and items to be discovered. Players are also able to craft different tools, weapons and bases, with each coming into use when fighting off any evil that comes their way.

Valheim is available to be played in both single-player as well as multiplayer, with up to 10 players and an optional PvP mode. The game has currently had a very good reception from critics, earning a rating of 9/10 from IGN Nordic.

World Save Location

If you're looking to find where your maps are saved in Valheim, you've come to the right place!

Windows

On Windows, your Valheim worlds are saved in the following folder:

%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds

To get there quickly:

Open up an Explorer window (you can do this by right clicking the start menu icon in the bottom left and clicking File Explorer)
Click the address bar at the top and paste the following in: %UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds
Hit ENTER on your keyboard and you'll be taken to the folder in which all of your Valheim maps are saved!

Linux

If you're a Linux user, you haven't been forgotten! Linux Valheim save files can be found in the following folder:

~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds/

Character Save Location

Trying to find where your Valheim characters are saved? Well, duh, of course you are, that's why you're here! See below for Valheim character save locations on your operating system.

Windows

On Windows, character saves for Valheim can be found at this location:

%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters

If you don't know what to do with the above path, follow these steps:

Open a Run window by hitting WINDOWS + R on your keyboard, or by right clicking the start menu icon (bottom left) and clicking Run
Paste the path (%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters) into the text field
Hit OK or press ENTER on your keyboard and you'll be taken to your Valheim character folder!

Linux

If you're a savvy Linux user, you can find your character saves from Valheim in the following folder:

~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/characters/

Server Save Location

If you're looking for your server saves on Valheim, you might be a bit stumped. We were too. They're actually located in the exact same place as local saves. For clarity, we've listed where these are below (although, you can also find the more specific character and world directories explained above).

Windows

On Windows, your server saves are located in the following directory (same as local saves):

%UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim

Just paste that path into the address bar of an Explorer window and you'll be taken right there!

Linux

On Linux, your server saves can be found at the following path:

~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim
