SOLVED: The Forest Save File Location

Save Game Location

The Forest is a survival game where players take control of a character called ‘Eric Leblanc’ from a first-person perspective, who, along with his son Timmy has just endured a plane crash. With no overriding missions and set in an open world environment, players take fate into their own hands and have control over their survival decisions.

The game is run on Unity engine and available to play in both single-player and multiplayer modes on Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4. Following its development and publishing by Endnight Games on 30th April 2018, the game has sold over 5 million copies across the globe.

The Forest has proved fairly popular amongst fans with ratings of 9/10 on Steam and 78% on Metacritic. Players have spoken highly of its high level of customization, as well as its challenging nature and open possibilities, although some have criticised its clunky user interface.

Save File Location

Unlike other games on Windows which store game saves in the Documents or My Games folder, The Forest saves your games within the AppData folder.

Whilst AppData has a little bit more "complicated looking" path, it's just as easy to access (see below for steps). Here it is:

%AppData%\..\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest

If you don't know what to do with that daunting string of text, don't stress! Just follow these steps:

  1. Press WINDOWS + R on your keyboard, or right click your start menu button (bottom left) to open a Run window
  2. Paste the path into the Run window text field (%AppData%\..\LocalLow\SKS\TheForest)
  3. Hit OK
  4. And that's you in The Forest's save files!
