Where Are Pillars of Eternity 2 Game Saves Located?

Pillars of Eternity was first released on 26th March 2015 and is available in Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, macOS, Macintosh operating systems, Microsoft Windows and Linux. The game was published by Paradox Entertainment, who, due to the success of the original, later released a second game in the series: Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, on 8th May 2018.

As an RPG set in a land called ‘Eora’, players are given control of a Character who has suddenly gained a magical power to see into the past and communicate with the dead. At the same time, children are being born without a soul, which has been given the name ‘hollow born’. It is the protagonists goal to both fix the hollow born phenomenon and discover what gave them their power.

Pillars of Eternity has been received well by fans, with a 92% rating on PC Gamer and 9/10 on steam. Players have praised its design and graphics, with some even hailing it as one of the top RPGs in history.

With all of your quest progress, character data, and all other save-specific data from Pillars of Eternity being stored in your save files, it's not surprising you'd want to know where they are. It doesn't take long to make a backup, and doing so can save you days (literally) of lost progress.

Although your saves folder is relatively easy to find, it does vary based on the operating system you're playing POE2 on, so find help relevant to your platform below:

Windows

Pillars of Eternity 2 save files are located in the following folder on all Windows installations of the game:

%UserProfile%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II

To open up this path:

  1. Press WINDOWS + R at the same time to open up a Run window
  2. Paste the following text into the text field: %UserProfile%\Saved Games\Pillars of Eternity II
  3. All you need to do now is click OK, and a File Explorer window will open in your saves folder!

Mac

Pillars of Eternity 2 on Mac saves your games in the following directory:

~/Library/Application Support/Pillars of Eternity II

You can access this folder by simply opening up a Finder window, pressing COMMAND + SHIFT + G, then pasting it into the text field and clicking GO.

Linux

If you're playing Pillars of Eternity II on a Linux-based operating system, your saves folder is very easy to find, just go to the following folder:
