Save Files Location

Borderlands 2 is a role playing game in the action video game market set on the planet of Pandora where players take the role of a Vault Hunter to complete a number of quests and side missions. It is the second game in the series following the successful release of Borderlands in 2009.

The game was first released on 18th September 2012 and now has over 2 million active players globally. With a high review score of 9/10 on Steam and 89% on Metacritic, it comes as no surprise that a third edition in the series: Borderlands 3 has since been released in September 2019.

Borderlands 2 is run on Unreal Engine 3 and is available on Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, OS X, Playstation and Linux. It was developed by Gearbox Software, also known for games such as Battleborn and Aliens, and was published by 2K Games.

Borderlands 2 Save Files Location

If you're a player of Borderlands 2, there are many reasons why you'd want to be able to access your save files. One of the most popular reasons is to create backups which prevents loss of progress if saves are ever corrupted or lost, these backups also double up as saves you can return to at a later date for nostalgia or to see how much progress you've made. Some third party apps that allow you to modify your game saves also require access to your save files, so knowing where your save files are located is important for this.

But enough about why one might wish to access their game saves, all you want to know is how to access them. You can find help for your operating system below.

Windows

Windows installations of Borderlands 2 have their game save files located in this folder:

%UserProfile%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 2\WillowGame\SaveData

You can open that folder by pressing WINDOWS + R on your keyboard, pasting the path into the text field, and clicking the OK button.

Inside that folder, you will have at least one folder named after your Steam ID. Within the folder named after your Steam ID, you can find your game saves.

Mac

Installations of Borderlands 2 on Mac devices save their games in the following directory:

~/Library/Application Support/Borderlands 2/WillowGame/SaveData

To go to this path:

  1. Open up a Finder window
  2. Press COMMAND + SHIFT + G
  3. Paste the path into the text field and click Go

Just like on the Windows edition of the game, inside the SaveData folder will be a folder named after your Steam ID, within which you can find your Borderlands 2 save files.

Linux

Linux installations of Borderlands 2 have their save files in this directory:

~/.local/share/aspyr-media/borderlands 2/willowgame/savedata

Within the savedata folder there will be a folder (at least one) named after your Steam account's Steam64ID. You saves will be inside this folder.
