Darkest Dungeon Save Location

After playing a lot of Darkest Dungeon (or if you're new), you might be wanting to backup your game saves, transfer them to one of your friends to allow them to play on your save, modify them, delete them, or do something else with them. Whatever it is you want to do to your saves, access to the save files is probably required. Thankfully, they're quite easy to locate, but there is a little nuance to where they're located on different operating systems and setups. See help for your specific installation below.

Windows

Steam

If you're playing Darkest Dungeon on Steam via Windows, Steam Cloud is enabled by default, which means your saves will be located at the following path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam > userdata > a folder named after your Steam3 ID > 262060 > remote

Inside the remote folder, there will be a folder for each of your saves starting with profile_.

If the above path isn't working, you have probably moved your Steam library location. Use this guide to locate it an then proceed through the folders after C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam in the path.

Non-Steam (GOG or Steam Cloud Disabled)

If you're playing on the non-Steam version of Darkest Dungeon, or your have Steam Cloud disabled, your saves will be in this folder:

%UserProfile%\Documents\Darkest

To quickly access that path, open up a File Explorer window (right click your start menu button and click File Explorer) and paste %UserProfile%\Documents\Darkest into the address bar at the top.

Mac

Steam

Steam editions of Darkest Dungeon on a Mac, similarly to Windows, have Steam Cloud enabled by default. To locate these, first go to the following path in Finder:

~/Library/Application Support/Steam

To open this path, simply press COMMAND + SHIFT + G, paste it in, and click Go.

Once you're in the Steam folder go through the following folders:

userdata > a folder named after your Steam3ID > 262060 > remote

Like on Windows, in the remote folder, you'll find a folder for each of your saves named profile_ followed by an ID for your save.

Non-Steam (GOG or Steam Cloud Disabled)

If you're playing Darkest Dungeons via GOG or have Steam Cloud disabled on a Mac, your saves will be at this path:

~/Library/Application Support/Darkest

Open up a Finder window, press COMMAND + SHIFT + G, paste the above path into the text area and click Go to jump to the saves folder.

Linux

Steam

Darkest Dungeon via Steam on Linux-based operating systems has Steam Cloud enabled by default, which means your save files will be at the following path:

~/.local/share/Steam/userdata > a folder named after your Steam3ID > 262060 > remote

Non-Steam (GOG or Steam Cloud Disabled)

If you're playing Darkest Dungeon on a non-Steam installation, or with Steam Cloud disabled, your saves will be in this directory:

~/.local/share/Red Hook Studios/Darkest/
